The Coastlands of Southeast Asia

If you were to take 80% of America’s population and put it on one quarter of the land, then divide that land into 10,000 islands, you’d have Indonesia, the largest and most populous country in Southeast Asia.

The beautiful island nation of Indonesia claims the largest Muslim population in the world. Taking the Gospel to the unengaged Muslim people groups of this region poses unique challenges, as many of them live on poor and remote coastlands.

Islamic practice throughout the region is steeped in folk traditions. In some communities, sacrifices are offered to ancestral and island spirits, and people live in near constant fear of evil.

Nevertheless, exciting movements of faith in Jesus Christ are happening as field workers bless Muslim communities through business, development projects, and prayer. And Frontiers workers are finding many opportunities to bring about spiritual transformation in the lives of men and women.

These are exciting days in Southeast Asia. But more workers are needed to advance the momentum of God’s work in the region and point Muslims to the path of salvation through Jesus Christ.

Isaiah 51:5 says, “My righteousness draws near, my salvation has gone out, and my arms will judge the peoples; the coastlands hope for me, and for my arm they wait.”

The unengaged Muslim people groups dwelling on the coastlands of Southeast Asia wait for the Lord’s salvation to draw near. Could you be someone God is calling to point them to salvation in Jesus Christ?
