The women lined the alleyway, leaning outside their doorways.
“Come into my home!” they each called out to Jessica, a Frontiers field worker. “Come inside and pray for me, too!”
Jessica and her husband Jeff had moved into the Muslim community just one year earlier.
They walked everywhere—just as the locals did. Walking helped Jeff and Jessica get to know the people in the neighborhood. They also used these walks to pray for the homes and businesses that they passed every day.
One afternoon, Jessica took several women from a visiting prayer team on a walk through the neighborhood.
As they walked down a small side street, a Muslim woman greeted them from her front door. As Jessica and the team stopped to chat, the woman introduced herself as Hafiza.
Dozens of people gathered around them, drawn by the unusual sight of foreigners in their neighborhood.
Within moments, a large curious crowd—perhaps twenty or thirty people—gathered around them, drawn by the unusual sight of Jessica and the other foreign women in their neighborhood.
Someone called out, “What are you doing here?”
“We are giving a blessing from God,” Jessica responded. She turned back to Hafiza, still standing at her front door, and asked, “Can we pray for you? Is there anything we can pray about for you?”
Hafiza immediately said, “Yes, yes, please come into my home!”
Jessica, the prayer team, and the entire crowd squeezed into Hafiza’s small sitting room.
“We pray in the name of Jesus Christ,” Jessica explained to the whole crowd. “Jesus is the One who has authority over all of heaven and earth.” Holding out their hands in prayer, Jessica and members of the team blessed Hafiza and her family.
As they filed back out onto the street, Jessica asked Hafiza, “Can I come back and visit you again?”
“You must,” Hafiza replied with a grin. “You must come and visit back soon!”
Back outside, the crowd dispersed. Jessica and her team turned down the street, where they found almost a dozen other women standing at their doors.
“Please, come into my house!” they each called out. “Please come inside and pray for me, too!”
Jessica’s group stopped and prayed for the first few women. But it was getting late. “May we come back another day to visit and pray for you?” Jessica asked. Each woman agreed and insisted they come back soon.
Jessica now makes it a regular practice to go out asking women if they would like prayer. She is welcomed into homes and prays, shares about Christ, and often gets invited back to visit again.
And nearly every time, Jessica finds even more women standing at their doors asking, “Please come into my house and pray for me, too!”
“I don’t know how word gets out or how it spreads so fast,” Jessica says, ”but it does!”
Recently, Hafiza started reading the Word of God with Jessica. They just completed their second Bible study.
- Praise God for the spiritual blessings that Jessica and Jeff are bringing into their community in Jesus’ name!
- Ask God to continue opening Hafiza’s eyes and heart to the truth of Jesus Christ as she studies the Bible with Jessica.
- Pray for great spiritual hunger as Frontiers field workers throughout the Muslim world invite men and women to discover the hope of the Gospel.
