Cries of mourning filled Miriam’s ears as she entered the room. Her uncle Samir lay lifeless on a bed in the middle of the room. Just minutes before, she had spoken a farewell to him and promised to visit again soon.
Now, as she approached his bedside again, she felt God tugging on her heart.
A few weeks earlier, Miriam had told her friend Lynda, a Frontiers worker, that she wanted to start following Jesus. Her decision came after months of studying God’s Word, prayer, and growing in trusting the Lord as Lynda coached her to take steps of faith.
Then Miriam heard about her uncle dying in a village two hours away—a village whose people follow a radical form of Islam. Encouraging Miriam to honor her family by going to visit, Lynda prayed with her and asked God to use her to share the hope of Jesus Christ.
During her two days in the village, Miriam visited with relatives and helped cook for all the guests paying their respects to her ailing uncle.
When it was time to return to her own home, Miriam squeezed Samir’s hand and promised to return soon.
But as soon as she stepped out of the house, a cousin pulled her back in. Samir had died just as Miriam left.
Miriam felt the heaviness of death when she reentered the room. Wading through her relatives’ wails of grief, she approached the bed. Miriam felt an urgent prompting to pray for her uncle.
As she prayed, the color returned to Samir’s face. The crying stopped as everyone watched the dead man revive. A few moments later, Samir was alive and well.
Miriam returned home and told Lynda and others how God had raised her uncle to life.
Haqim, another Muslim-background believer, heard about his friend Miriam’s testimony and felt led to visit Samir himself.
When he arrived, Haqim found a large group of people gathered to see the man who had been raised to life. They clamored with questions, pressing Samir and his relatives for more details.
“This man was raised by the power of Jesus Christ,” Haqim declared over the noise. He shared about Jesus’ power to heal, His victory over death, and the offer of eternal life to all who place their faith in Him.
Visitors and family members listened intently. And that day, almost a dozen people—including Uncle Samir—committed to following Jesus Christ.
These new followers now meet weekly to study God’s Word and pray together.
- Praise God for using Frontiers workers to share the Gospel with people like Miriam and Haqim, who then take courageous steps of faith to share it with others.
- Ask God to help the new believers in the village become established in the Word.
- Pray that Muslim-background believers will boldly spread the Good News and that many more will embrace the Savior.
