The offensive effort to take back the city of Mosul, Iraq has begun. This city, which is the ancient site of Nineveh, has been held by ISIS since 2014
Our hearts are heavy. We are surrounded by neighbors who have already lost more of their loved ones than we ever could imagine. They are hurting and scared for friends and family members still trapped in Mosul.
We are prayerfully watching how the crisis will unfold for the civilians trapped in this conflict. It would be a miraculous feat to care for half a million people fleeing to this region.
Aid organizations are already drafting up their response plans for the impending crisis.
Meanwhile, our team has been drafting a spiritual response plan. Below you’ll find some of the prayer points and verses we’re using to intercede for those who are trapped in Mosul.
Praise God that He knows the name and heart of each frightened man, woman, and child in Mosul. He has not forgotten them.
Please pray with us.
– Ask God to protect the weak, the poor, and the oppressed in Mosul. (Psalm 140:12-13)
– Pray for leaders of the offensive and in the humanitarian response to act wisely. May they put their trust in God instead of their own power or strength. Pray that they would serve on behalf of the weak and powerless. (Luke 22:25-27)
– Pray that the fighting would not last long and that God would turn what is meant for evil into good. (Genesis 50:20)
– Ask the Spirit of God to bring the different groups in Mosul to repentance so that they can know the blessings of the Lord. (Joel 2:12-14)
– Pray for God to reveal His healing power through the mercy and love of aid workers. Ask for a well-coordinated response that provides those who are fleeing with shelter, food and water, and medical care. Pray especially for vulnerable populations such as pregnant women, little children, and the elderly. (Isaiah 58:6-12)
– We praise God for His faithfulness and pray that His Kingdom comes, His will be done, and that He receives all the glory!
