Khamis and Aisha, a young Muslim couple, spent several years studying in Europe. While living abroad, they were befriended by followers of Jesus. Deeply moved by their Christ-like kindness, Khamis and Aisha began attending church services with their Christian friends.
I met Khamis shortly after he and his wife returned from their years in Europe. They spoke fondly of the believers who had welcomed them, wondering aloud what it was that compelled their kindness.
The first time we met, Khamis said he wanted to study God’s Word with me.
Since then, we’ve been studying together every week.
In one of our lessons about Noah, Khamis grasped the idea of an inherited fallen nature. “Even a massive flood cannot erase the problem with our hearts,” he said.
Recently, our wives also joined us to study God’s Word together. We read about the call of Abraham in Genesis 17, in which God gives Abram and Sarai new names. As we read how God established His covenant with Abraham, Khamis observed a key truth about God—that faith, always growing and dynamic, is the basis of our relationship with the Lord.
All along, Khamis has been interested and engaged in our studies. He still calls himself an agnostic. And since we have yet to start reading the Gospels, Khamis knows precious little about Jesus’s death and resurrection. But he is on a trajectory leading toward the Kingdom.
Khamis is an influencer of others. That means those around him—his wife, his mother, and several of his brothers—are moving in the same direction towards the Kingdom. They are hungry to know God’s Word., and Khamis is faithfully sharing it with them.
- Pray for the Spirit to open Khamis’ mind and heart as he studies the Bible.
- Ask God to continue drawing him and his family closer to the Kingdom.
- Pray for understanding, conviction, and belief as they encounter His Word.
