Baptized in the Sea

“My friend wants to come watch,” Ragheed told Nabil over the phone.

“Sure,” Nabil replied. “Bring him with you to the beach. I’m almost there.”

Ragheed, a new Muslim-background follower of Christ, was about to obey Jesus’ command to be baptized.

Nabil thought about his own baptism as he drove through the neighborhoods that hugged the seaside. In the years since then, Jesus Christ had changed his whole life.

“Thank you, Lord, for introducing me to Jesus Christ,” Nabil prayed. He thanked God for the people who had shared the Gospel with him and helped him grow as a disciple.

Jared, a Frontiers worker, was one of those. Jared and Nabil had spent countless hours together studying the Word and praying. More recently, they had been discussing what it would take to see a movement to Christ to sweep across the country.

“Perhaps a movement to Christ is already beginning,” Nabil thought as he waited on the beach.

Ragheed arrived and introduced his friend Samir to Nabil. Samir had watched the Jesus Film. He knew nothing other than what he had seen in the film, but he, too, wanted to be baptized there on the beach with Ragheed.

“You can’t,” Ragheed said to his friend. “You don’t know enough about Christ.”

“So let’s tell him what he needs to know,” Nabil suggested.

For the next hour, Ragheed explained the Gospel to Samir until he was satisfied that his friend could also be baptized.

Praise God for these brothers who have become new creations in Christ! Along with another newly-baptized believer, Ragheed and Samir are now studying the Bible, praying, and serving together.

Pray for Nabil as he shepherds them to walk in obedience to Jesus.

Pray that they would be strong witnesses and grow in the Word.

Ask the Lord to bless Jared with wisdom as he coaches leaders like Nabil to facilitate a movement to Christ within Muslim communities.

Pray for fruitful partnerships across the Muslim world that result in thriving movements to Jesus Christ.
