“This Book is just too good to keep for myself,” Sadiq told Chris.
The two men first met when Sadiq, a cab driver, gave Chris a ride to work. After an initial greeting, their conversation turned naturally towards spiritual matters.
“Are you a Muslim?” Sadiq asked.
“No, I’m a Christian,” answered Chris. “Are you a Christian, too?” Chris asked Sadiq, even though he already knew the answer. The Qur’an placed prominently on Sadiq’s dashboard identified him as an obedient Muslim.
“No, I am not,” Sadiq responded. “But I have read some of the Bible.”
Chris asked Sadiq what he had liked from his reading of the Bible. Sadiq launched into an explanation of the parts he liked and the thoughts and questions they had raised in him.
As they arrived at Chris’s destination, the two men exchanged phone numbers and agreed to meet soon to continue their discussion.
In the months that followed, Chris and Sadiq met regularly. They would talk about good and evil, and how faith is worked out in the lives of Christians and of Muslims. Sadiq began to share openly about his pains and disappointments, as well as the questions he had about his faith and religion.
One day, Sadiq confessed to Chris that he had once had a dream about Jesus. In the dream, Sadiq saw a man standing in a narrow alley. A small girl appeared next to Sadiq and told him that the man was Jesus.
Sadiq began to demonstrate a deep hunger to discover everything he could about the man from his dream. His hunger to know Jesus drove the conversation whenever he and Chris met.
“Can we read the Bible together?” Sadiq eventually asked Chris. “I have many questions, and I think only the Bible can give me the answers.” A request like this, coming from a man who has been raised in a culture where people do not question what they have been taught, is no small thing.
Since then, Sadiq has been reading the Bible with Chris and his spirit is filling with joy.
“What we are reading is very important… this book is a gift!” he told Chris. “Other people need this gift. I want to share it with others!”
Chris marvels at how God is revealing Himself to his friend. Sadiq is hungry and is receiving the truth he is learning from the Word.
“He is dancing on the edge of the Kingdom,” says Chris. “Every time we meet Sadiq seems just a little bit closer!”
Would you join us in praying that Sadiq—and other Muslims who are discovering the truth in God’s Word—would embrace Jesus as Lord?
