How can I pray for South Sudan?
I hear their stories. I have looked into the eyes of South Sudanese refugees as they relate horrifying accounts of injustice. A young man describes how his father was killed before his eyes. Outrage rises up in my heart.
Stories like his make the injustices of the world real and near. Now what? How do I care for these people without just letting my heart go numb?
I want to do something. I want to see light replace darkness. I want to see healing and freedom. I want to see children who don’t have to grow up in fear.
Let our desire for justice be a call to action. Let it drive us into prayer to our God who says that anything is possible, that this is not the end.
Pray His Word.
Let Your kingdom come and your will be done in South Sudan (Matthew 6:10).
Bring forth justice for the oppressed and rescue the prisoners from darkness (Isaiah 42:1,7).
Pray over a map. Place your hands over the nation of South Sudan, asking for God’s light and truth to be made known in every city.
Pray over government officials. Find a list of their names, and bless them to walk in integrity and stand up for truth.
Pray for South Sudanese churches. Bless them to stand for courage and forgiveness in the nation.
I stand with that grown son as he raises his communion cup. He says, “I forgive my enemies. I have overcome by the blood of the Lamb and the word of His testimony. God, forgive the men that killed my father, they did not know what they were doing.”
Pray with faith to God who says that injustice does not have the final word.
