Gossiping for Good

It’s been a year since we moved into our Muslim community. We’re getting known.

And we’re also getting talked about.

We’ve made a lot of new friends. God has also given us opportunities to share the Gospel with many Muslims and study the Bible with them.

This requires us to be bold with our friends. We share the Good News, invite people to discover God’s Word, and are clear about our unwavering allegiance to Jesus Christ.

At the same time, we are respectful, kind, and patient. We let our light shine before others and show love and concern for our neediest neighbors. Our prayer is that this would give glory to our Father in heaven.

Not surprisingly, we are noticed, and rumors are circulating as locals speculate about who we are and why we are here. Some community members warn other locals against spending time with us. When our new English class ended abruptly and without explanation, we assumed it was due to rumors.

At the same time, more and more people are spending time with us. Fear, rumors, and warnings are not stopping them from wanting to be in our lives.

One friend, Mansour, visits us often and wants to learn more about Jesus.

There’s a young widow, Aziza, who has asked us to teach Bible stories to her and her children.

Several others we know also have hearts open to the Gospel.

We’re not entirely sure if the rumors are good or bad for our Gospel witness. But one thing is clear: if people want to discover more about Jesus, they know where to find us. Christ’s work in us cannot be hidden.

As Jesus said, “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven” (Matthew 5:14-16).

  • Thank God for hundreds of Frontiers field workers who are shining the light of Christ in Muslim communities.
  • Pray that rumors would simply make more Muslims curious about the Gospel and draw many into His Kingdom.
  • Ask for more workers to be sent to testify to Christ’s perfect love, which casts out fear (1 John 4:18).
