The Lord is a stronghold for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. (Psalm 9:9)
Join us in praying for the Rohingya, a Muslim people group in Southeast Asia who are at the center of the world’s fastest-developing refugee emergency.
The Rohingya are from Myanmar, a predominantly Buddhist country bordering India, Bangladesh, China, Laos, and Thailand.
For decades, the Rohingya have been fleeing apartheid-like conditions in Myanmar’s Rakhine state. They are denied citizenship and discriminated against in the health and education systems. They are also banned from traveling outside their state, where they lack basic services and opportunities.
Violence escalated in late August following an attack on government forces by a militant Rohingya group. In a brutal retaliation campaign, the Myanmarese military attacked and burned villages.
As violence unfolded, over 500,000 Rohingya fled to neighboring Bangladesh in the space of one month. Many drowned while trying to cross the river that separates the two countries.
The UN and aid organizations face immense challenges in serving those who have settled in crowded makeshift camps along the border.
Please pray:
- For food, medicine, shelter, and safety to be provided quickly for those in need.
- For God to send Christ’s followers to be Jesus’ hands and feet to the oppressed.
- For the global church to be mobilized to reach the Rohingya and show them the Father’s love.
- For the Rohingya to have the opportunity to hear the Gospel and embrace Jesus Christ.
