Fadil is a faithful participant in our English reading group. Over the years, many people have shared the Gospel with him. But he always seemed indifferent.
Now he’s engaging with God’s Word in our English group and reading the Bible on his own. We even hear him exhorting others with the truth of Scripture. He is also growing in maturity and character. At his office job, Fadil works hard to do his best—even though most others slack off and say he’s foolish for trying to do a good job.
Fadil recently got engaged and invited us to attend the traditional engagement ceremony. As is common at local weddings, the men were in one hall and the women in another.
On the women’s side, I was quickly adopted by two of Fadil’s co-workers. For over an hour, these two women talked about how Fadil is not like other Muslim men.
“He must really love and fear God,” one of them said. “He is honest, even when no one is watching.”
The other woman added, “He always talks about God, and we feel safe being around him. We never feel that way around other men in this culture!”
Fadil is a man who is being transformed by God, and it’s clear to those around him. We see that he loves Jesus and is trying to obey what he learns from the Word.
But he has not yet fully embraced Christ. He has thought hard about it and says he is afraid that if he did, he’d be abandoning his cultural identity.
- Please pray that Fadil would find Jesus an irresistible treasure worth more than anything else.
- Pray for field workers to have wisdom in encouraging Muslims like Fadil as they wrestle with what it means to embrace all of Jesus Christ.
- Ask the Lord to reveal the whole truth of Jesus Christ to Muslims as they encounter Him in the Word.
