I Believe Jesus Died

My close friend Jamila is open to learning about Jesus Christ. We’ve had conversations about His death and resurrection, and I’ve told her about the great inheritance waiting for those who believe in Jesus.

Most Muslims are taught that Jesus’ death never happened. They believe that the Bible is corrupted and cannot be trusted. This is one of the greatest hurdles we face in introducing the Bible as a valuable source of truth and Jesus Christ as the King worth following.

Recently, Jamila showed me a verse from the Qur’an and declared, “I think this is evidence that Jesus died.”

The verse was from the twelfth Sura. This Qur’anic passage summarizes the account from Genesis 40 when Joseph was imprisoned with Pharaoh’s cupbearer and baker. Both the cupbearer and baker have dreams one night, and Joseph offers to interpret them. According to the sura, Joseph tells two men that one of them will be released. The other, however, will be crucified.

“Who showed you this verse?” I asked curiously.

“No one did,” she replied, “I just read this story a lot, and I think it must refer to Jesus’ death.”

That night before I went to sleep, I texted her an article about Christ’s death and resurrection.

“I believe it!” Jamila exclaimed when she came to visit me the next day. “I believe He died.”

What a beautiful way God is drawing Jamila toward the truth!

  • Pray that Jamila would continue to discover the truth about Jesus Christ.
  • Ask the Lord to help Jamila to deeply hunger for the Word of God as her sole source of truth.
  • Pray that the veil covering Muslims’ hearts from hearing the truth of the Gospel would be lifted so that many will walk in His freedom (2 Corinthians 3:14-17).
