Greater than a Holy Man

The patient lay rigid, his eyes closed and fists clenched. His brother Ahmed sat with his hand resting on the gurney as they waited in the emergency room.

In the same room, a new follower of Christ named Fouad was sitting with his niece who needed treatment for an acute ear infection.

“He’s been like this for days,” Ahmed said to Fouad. “I think I should call the sheikh to read the Quran over him.”

Fouad knew that this was a common remedy local people sought for all kinds of troubles—physical, mental, or spiritual. They believed that holy men were closer to God and that the words they spoke from the Quran could sometimes heal.

“I can pray for him,” Fouad offered. He had never prayed for anyone’s healing. But he had read about it in God’s Word during his weekly meetings with Martin, a Frontiers worker.

With Ahmed’s permission, Fouad placed his hands on the patient’s head and began to pray.

“Jesus Messiah, as You have done to others, heal this man too,” Fouad prayed. After his simple prayer, Ahmed’s brother relaxed and opened his eyes.

Ahmed stood in silent shock, his face was full of questions. He wondered how a young man like Fouad could have such spiritual power when all the sheikhs he knew were old and bearded. Those holy men also charged money for their services.

A doctor arrived to examine the patient.

“There is nothing physically wrong with your brother,” the doctor said. “But I recommend that you take him to see a psychiatrist.”

Ahmed pointed at Fouad and said, “That man prayed over him, and now he is better!”

The doctor shrugged and said, “You should probably take him to see a psychiatrist anyway.”

Later, Martin rejoiced with Fouad over the way he trusted in Christ’s ability to heal the man in the emergency room. They also discussed how Fouad could use situations like these to also point people to Christ. Praise God for Fouad’s faithfulness and his desire to grow in boldness!

Martin says, “I am greatly encouraged by Fouad’s simple trust in Jesus. He only has a grade school education, but I believe God is going to use him to influence others.”

  • Praise God for Fouad’s faith in Jesus, and ask the Lord to bless him with increased boldness.
  • Pray for more Muslims to encounter the power of Christ to heal.
  • Ask the Lord to use signs and wonders to show His love and mercy to Muslims around the world.
