Disciples Making Disciples

Local leaders from a minority Christian community in South Asia have caught the vision to reach Muslims with the Gospel. A Frontiers worker shares how his team is training believers to share the Good News, make disciples, and plant churches in Muslim communities.

Two local pastors recently invited our team to come equip their church members to share the Gospel and make disciples among their Muslim neighbors.

So, for six months, we offered training in four cities. Dozens of believers in each city attended the training, and over eighty people completed the course.

At first, many believers in the training course felt afraid to share the Gospel. Reaching out to Muslims is impossible, they thought.

But by the end, they all said they now had helpful tools for engaging Muslims with the Good News.

One of these tools is the discovery Bible study method. It involves reading a Bible passage and asking questions to help people discover God’s truth. The questions give them the opportunity to think about how to put the Word into practice and share it with others. This is a key component for seeing love for Jesus take root in whole communities.

The trainees had never studied Scripture this way. Many of the Bible studies they’d been in were carefully planned lessons. Sometimes Bible studies were used for impromptu sermons. The idea of engaging with Scripture in a way that encourages personal discovery was completely new for them.

Nevertheless, by the final training session, many of the trainees had befriended Muslims in their communities and were sharing the Gospel. A few had even started leading Bible studies with their new friends. Each person who had completed the training reported feeling less fear and having more confidence in the Word. Some even expressed that they felt God giving them a new calling to focus on reaching Muslims.

Because of our training, over eighty followers of Jesus are now sharing the hope of Christ and making disciples among Muslims. Moreover, two of our graduates are leading the same training course in six new cities.

We rejoice that God has allowed us to help expand His Kingdom here! It’s tremendously rewarding to see our local brothers and sisters equipped with the tools to start movements to Christ among Muslims.

  • Please pray for more opportunities to equip national believers to share the Good News in Muslim communities.
  • Pray for the 80+ training graduates to continue inviting their friends and neighbors to engage with God’s Word.
  • Ask the Lord of the harvest to prepare the hearts of Muslims to hear the Gospel message and follow Jesus Christ.
